Disable Thumbnail and Preview Generation, and Caching
Thumbnails and previews are agonizingly slow to generate. Regardless of what settings I change, they take way too long to load, and often times don't load at all. Cache size, cache file size limit, preview quality, etc, none of them are effective, especially for videos since some cache settings don't apply to them. I would like the ability to apply keywords to files quickly. In my case, and I'm sure often enough for others, the thumbnails and previews are excess information. Generating them takes too long to make the workflow possible at all. Please consider. Thank you.
Dear Bridge Users,
Have you tried setting the following Preferences?
Edit Menu→Preferences→Thumbnails→Do Not Process files larger than 1000 MB. Change this to 1 MB.
Also, on the right hand side of the folder navigation bar on top, drop down next to the triangle (Option for thumbnail quality and previews) and select “Prefer Embedded (faster)”. Screenshot attached.
Let us know if this helps by commenting on User Voice.

I've tried this and it doesn't speed up operations such as searching for and replacing metadata templates for a large number (e.g. 400+) files on an M2/64GB Mac Studio. I still get a beach ball.

For the purpose of culling previews must be available for all photos in the actual folder before start.
Bridge 2021 loads the CPU 100% while the previews are prepared.
If possible, speeding up 100% preview generation will be the preferred solution.
If not, a tool for preparing 100% previews without loading the CPU 100% must be provided, so that previews can be made “in advance” while the computer can be used for “something else”. -

Bridge rebuilding thumbnails after each metadata update.
I have a folder with numerous 500+ Mb scans. Can't batch change metadata. Simple as that.2021. 16 years since Bridge launch. How inexperience and dumb can these people be?

Your suggestion is just a common misunderstanding of Bridge operation and it does not work. Limiting processing also filters the entire file by size, something that you do not want to do. Thumbnail generation is tied to index generation and one cannot happen without the other. Limiting the thumbnail processing size also limits the number of files indexed which corrupts the integrity of the photo database.

Bridge 11.0.0.83 on iMac (i7, 32 GB RAM) with macOS Catalina. Option for Thumbnail is set to "prefer Embedded (faster)" with dimensions of embedded. Each time changing into an already visited Folder with 2 bitmaps, a "wheel" in the bottom bar is rotating for about 30 ... 60 Seconds before the thumbnails are displayed.
In this moment it seems that only network folder, the Desktop and its subfolder are affected. Folder like Documents, Pictures, Music, Films or Webs are shown immediately. What could this behavior mean?
How can I check, wich other app or process makes this behavior?(I know Adobe-Help-Page (https://helpx.adobe.com/de/bridge/kb/troubleshoot-errors-freezes-bridge.html#main_Troubleshooting_steps), but nothing seems to change behavior.)
2021-03-05:
Due to the slowness of BR 11, I use BR 9.1. Today I tried BR 11.0.1.109 again, as some CS updates and system updates (MacOs 10.15.7) have now taken place. To my surprise, all folders now load quickly. The only exception: the desktop. Without further ado I cleared the desktop and then gradually brought all the elements back. The extreme sluggishness of scanning the desktop is caused by aliases on the desktop pointing to folders on the network whose devices are offline.
Therefore, BR 11.x should be changed in such a way that alias elements are ignored in the simplest case during the folder scan.

Just off the phone with Adobe 'again' today... guy #2 today and though not perfect after 1.30 hours of time... he got those thumbnails loading and staying loaded much better though a couple might still drag... by doing the above selection at the top of the menu in the Bridge window upper right! Try it... and get back to working! in CC 2020
Good Luck -

I tried but same results.
I ask for a button to disable Preview Generation and another one to disable Thumbnail Generation. A contextual menu to generate Thumbnail would also be great.

Slow to make people want to commit suicide, the most advanced MBP shows slow, what should I do with lower-level computers? Bridge This situation has been a long time, what is this, really don't become a lazy company!

there needs to be a way to halt the generation also per folder /folder tree so that navigation would be faster . also i would like to see all the files and folders before generation of thumbnails will start

Adobe Bridge would be a great tool to manage large amounts of footage, but preview generation is killing my workflow. In my case Bridge takes around 10 hours to load 1000 clips, and while generating thumbnails and previews, Bridge completely freezes. I have around 200.000 clips stored in my hard disks, and all of them are organized with keywords.
Now we have the option to export cache, but importing it is slow too (much faster but slow anyway).
I ask for a button to disable Preview Generation and another one to disable Thumbnail Generation. A contextual menu to generate Thumbnail would also be great.I think this would improve a workflow for video based on keywords. Concretely Video Preview is useless in my workflow. Thank you.
