I had the case when no stars would be written, but ACR had that image open in another screen...
I had the issues in the past with video files. -

If not, try with it active, purge the cache, and report back. -

Isn't there a windows shortcut to float and shrink an application window that you are maybe triggering? -

Or try Bridge 2020, I think that the previews are different. -
